Welcome to The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form

Founded in 1667 The Mirfield Free Grammar has a long established tradition of success and promotes values such as respect, honesty, integrity, morality and courtesy. It is also a DfE designated Technology College and Leadership Partner School. The faculties of The MFG embrace new technologies to ensure that its students have the skills to equip them for life in the 21st century. The school was rated as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2008 and from 1st April 2011 became an Outstanding Academy. The MFG believes by becoming an academy it has enabled its staff to serve the needs of their students increasingly effectively into the future.

We work hard to maintain a happy and well-run school, where students feel confident to thrive and develop. We strive to make our school a place of sound, stimulating and appropriate learning, where every student can achieve their true potential. We create a caring community where great emphasis is placed upon good relationships and partnerships to encourage respect, understanding and co-operation.

The school’s academic results are exemplary. We are also very proud of our place on Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of School’s list of ‘The most successful schools in the country’. In 2011, 95% of students have achieved 5 or more A*-C grades and 98% gained 5 or more A*-G grades, both of which show very good value-added achievement. 76% achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics, again showing very good value-added achievement. Post-16 results were also good. All our students proceeded to higher and further education courses of their choice.
